Spray the following room freshener around your home…

  • Cut lemons and oranges into slices or quarters.
  • Combine the fruits with cinnamon sticks, bay leaves and cloves.
  • Cover with 2-3 quarts of water and simmer on low heat.
  • Add more water as needed. Cover any leftover mixture and refrigerate it.
  • Reuse as needed. Spray all around the house.

3. Use essential oils

Diffuse some Christmas scents essential oils like Pine, Frankincense, Myrrh, Clove, Sweet Orange, Nutmeg, Vanilla and Cinnamon. You can add a few drops of these oils to your humidifier or simply some to a bowl of water placed on the room heater. This method also adds moisture to the room and is a surefire way to get your home smelling like Christmas. Here is a Christmas scent recipe for room freshener that uses all the popular Christmas scents essential oils:

  • 2 drops of Fir/Pine/Spruce essential oil
  • 8 drops Mandarin essential oil
  • 1-2 drops of Cinnamon essential oil
  • 2 drops of Clove essential oil

Dilute the above blend with 300ml of water and store the mixture in a plant mister/spray bottle. Spray all over the house. You can also invest in an oil burner. Placing a few cotton buds dipped in your favorite Christmas scent essential oils on warm radiators can also do the trick.

4. Use Christmas potpourri in a jar

Many stores have sales on Christmas potpourri. However, you can easily make your own. This is a simple way of making your home smell amazing in winters to remind you of the holidays:

  • Cinnamon sticks-4-5 nos
  • Star anise-1-2
  • Nutmeg-1-2
  • 3-5 cloves
  • Walnut and hazelnut hulls
  • Cinnamon essential oil-10 drops
  • Clove essential oil – 4/5 drops

Collect the spices, herbs and nut shells in a jar. Sprinkle the essential oils on top. Cover the jar until needed. Replenish the scents by adding more oils every few days.

  • A few cones and branches of any of the following: Pine, Juniper, Spruce or Cypress
  • 10 drops of Pine essential oil
  • 5 drops of Cedarwood essential oil

Arrange the dried materials in a jar or bowl. Add the oils. Cover up until ready to use. Refresh with more oil as desired.

5. Wood fire

If you have a fireplace, you can quickly scent up the room like Christmas by placing pine cones, orange peels, and seasoned apple wood on the wood as it burns. You can also add essential oils to logs before burning. Just add 1-3 drops of the oil to the log and let it soak and dry completely before you burn it. The best firewood oils are Pine, Fir, Sandalwood, Frankincense, Cypress, Cedarwood, Spruce and Myrrh.
