Last week, we shared some tips to help you get more traffic to your website. In part 2 of the same guide, we will help you discover 20 ways to get you even more traffic.
1. Take a look at your logs to see where traffic is coming from
Every once in a while, visit your Google Analytics and find out where traffic is coming from. Also determine the phrases and keywords people are typing into search engines to come to your site. You can also use free stats sites like AW Stats Log Analyzer to get information on your website stats like number of visitors, what brings them there, where do they go next and so on.
2. Join business association sites to list your site
Many business association websites list member sites online as long as they are in the same niche.
3. Consider adding a forum to your site
We already talked about this easy way to get more traffic to your website, but felt we should repeat it here since it comes with its share of pros and cons. Forums can be great since they tend to bring members over and over to your site. However, forums also come several disadvantages. For one, you might have to ‘seed’ them in the beginning to get traffic. You will also need to remove spam from time to time, or hire moderators across time zones to remove the spammy comments. Also, your forums should bring visitors to your newsletter-else they will just come to your site and leave without being of any advantage to you.
4. Entice visitors with freebies
We all love free stuff- so you can give away free reports or eBooks in PDF format and distribute it to other websites or through newsletters with a link back to your site. You can also get together with affiliates to publish brandable reports-add their links-so you both benefit. You can even distribute your eBooks by searching for eBook directories on Google and listing it here.
5. Become a forum moderator
Seek out forums on other sites in your niche. Offer to become a moderator for that forum and give out advice and tips. In return, you will get free publicity to your site.
6. Be controversial, entertaining or funny
This is one of the easiest ways to get more traffic to your website. Write something controversial-but make sure you report facts accurately. You will get thousands of people coming to your site and commenting on it. People will even share the link. You will have to be a tough cookie since you might be criticized for your views. Alternatively, you could be outrageously funny so people will share the link on social media or other funny sites that get millions of visitors.
7. Use link baiting to get traffic to your website
Link baiting is getting people to link back to your site because they want to. Great content is of course one of the best ways to get people to do so. Other link baits include
- Infographics and images
- Breaking News
- Timeless/evergreen content
- Quizzes and games
- Contests
8. Position yourself as an expert
Once people start perceiving you as an expert on certain topics, you can get interview calls which, in turn, can help you get targeted traffic to your website.
9. Make a list of 10-15 headlines before choosing one
The headline of your post can make a lot of difference to how it is perceived. Make a list of 15 headlines (at least, because you can even make 20 if you have the time). Read them again and again before settling on the best.
10. Pay attention to your on-page SEO
Apart from SEO in your blogs and images, make sure you also optimize all your pages for the Search Engines. Keep creating links to internal content and related pages. Also make sure you check your images for the Alt tabs and pay special attention to your long tail keywords (by searching for what readers are looking for in forums or answer sites like Yahoo-answers etc.
11. Invite people in your niche to blog on your site
Make sure the bloggers you invite are experts though and have high PR –this way, when they mention you on their site, they can get their readers to visit your site as well.
12. Post to LinkedIn
LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional social media site that is not just a means of finding a job but also a platform for publishing content. Make sure you are regular in posting though-doing so can boost traffic to your site and also increase your worth in your industry or niche.
13. Paid advertising
This has its pros and cons and you have to decide what you want the ads to do: simply get more traffic or also increase your conversions. You must also target high commercial intent words when reaching out for the credit card.
14. Pay attention to your page schema
While this won’t necessarily increase traffic to your website-it will certainly help make it easier for your site to be found by search engines.
15. Does your site load quickly?
Technically optimize your pages so that they load fast. Your bounce rate will go up if your site loads slowly.
16. Use Aggregator sites to submit your content to
Aggregator sites like Reddit accept good content as long as you do not spam them by disguising your link. Choose relevant sub-reddit and submit your content there. This will help bring in lot of traffic to the site.
17. Use Video to grab attention
We have mentioned this before- visuals grab attention more than text does. So make sure you include videos as a part of your content strategy.
18. Curate content
Curating content means finding the best information pertaining to one particular topic and enlisting it on your site. For example, if your blog is about healthy recipes, you can write an article on, say, Top 35 best recipes with Avocado and find all the top recipes that are ranking high in the category. Then link back to those websites with a brief introduction. What this does is-it gives readers a single shop stop to find relevant information they are seeking. Make sure you open links in different windows to keep people on your site.
19. Keep an eye on the competition
Use sites like BuzzSumo to find out the most shared content and include that on your site with a little something extra.
20. Host webinar presentations
People love to learn-so include live webinars and presentations which they can watch and learn from. Make sure the webinars are available for viewing later as well. Promote the webinars through usual channels like Facebook, Twitter and your email newsletters. Here are steps how to do a webinar.
