Ways to save waterNowadays more and more of us are being subjected to water metering and therefore the need to save water has become more of an issue than ever. One way to save on water is to have a water barrel in the garden or yard. This can collect rain water and be used to water all areas of the garden. You can place your barrel next to a down pipe in your house guttering. Divert the pipe into the barrel and you will always have plenty of water. Presuming you live in an area that has rain. Another way to save water is to place a couple of half bricks in the cistern of your toilet. This way it will take less water to fill the cistern and therefore less water is used each time the lavatory is flushed. When doing your laundry. Instead of sending the wash water down the drain. Pipe it out to the garden it's called gray water and has no nasty bacteria and is good for the garden and saves on the water bill. Just lay a plastic pipe from the washing machine outlet through the wall or have a portable pipe that you take out of the door to the backyard. When you have finished washing the pipe can be packed up and stored until the next wash day.
