AllergiesMany people have physical reactions to things called allergens. Allergens are things such as pollen, feathers, dust, foods, animal fur and medicines. A good traditional remedy for allergies in general is the following; Drink an infusion of wild thyme which is a powerful antibacterial agent Chew peeled cloves of garlic or take garlic capsules Drink nettle or sage tea; they contain mineral salts Further advice is as follows; Hay fever This is the most common allergy. Its symptoms are sneezing and a stuffy, runny nose. It is a reaction to pollen and is usually quite minor. It can be treated with over-the-counter preparations or prescription antihistamines. If you find that the symptoms are becoming troublesome then see your doctor. He may prescribe medicines such as eye drops, nasal spray or inhaler to damp down your body's reaction to pollen. In more severe cases he may prescribe steroid tablets or injections. Anaphylactic shock This is the most severe form of allergic reaction. It can develop in minutes or even seconds after contact with an allergen, or it may appear half an hour or more later, or even progress suddenly from an apparently mild allergic reaction. The face, chest and back may become flushed, itchy and burning. The face, tongue and lips may swell and the lips turn blue. Breathing becomes difficult and noisy. The pulse becomes weak and rapid. Pale skin, dizziness, nausea and headache may follow. Finally, in very serious cases, the person may faint and lapse into a coma. The person needs immediate medical assistance. Treat for shock and ensure that he has an open airway. If he becomes unconscious, place him in the recovery position. If breathing fails, start artificial respiration immediately. Take him to a doctor or call an ambulance. More Health Tips tips
