Clean SilverHere are a few ideas for cleaning silver. For cleaning silver put the items in a bowl with a handful of washing soda and some aluminum foil cover the items with enough water to cover them. Make sure that all the silver is touching the foil at one place or another. Take the silver out and rinse in hot water and dry thoroughly. Or Save the water in which Irish potatoes have been boiled. Drop in a few pieces of tarnished silver for an hour or two and see them shine! Now why they have to be Irish potatoes I do not know. Maybe any type of potato will do Or If you have a small silver item you want to clean, make a solution of 1 part baking soda and 4 parts lemon juice, let the silver item stand in the mixture for a minute. Then wipe with a rag dipped in the mixture and you'll see an amazing shine. Or, if the item to be cleaned is larger, no need to soak item, just rub with a cloth or rag that has been dipped in the baking soda/lemon mixture. Apparently baking soda on it's own can shine all your silver in no time at all! Use a baking soda paste made with 3 parts baking soda to 1 part water. Rub onto the silver with a clean cloth or sponge. Rinse thoroughly and dry for shining sterling and silver-plate serving pieces! Use toothpaste and an old soft toothbrush to polish tarnished sterling. Dampen the piece of silver and brush the toothpaste on. Rinse with warm water and dry thoroughly with a soft cloth. Produces a beautiful sparkling finish that lasts longer than any commercial silver polish I have used. I learned this trick from a friend whose mother is an antiques dealer. More Cleaning Tips tips
