Removing wine stains. Red or WhiteIf possible treat the wine stain immediately after the spill or accident. Sprinkle salt liberally over the stained area to absorb the wine spill. After the salt has absorbed the wine you can vacuum it up or brush it off the carpet. If you spill wine on your clothing or tablecloth, blot it up immediately with an clean and absorbent cloth, then sponge the stained area with carbonated soda water or warm water to pull the stain out. The bubbles in the soda water lift the stain right out of the material. If the fabric is washable then stretch the effected area over a small saucepan or heat resistant bowl and hold it in place with string or an elastic band. Pour hot water through the fabric, and then wash as soon as possible to pull any remaining wine stain out. Be sure to remember not to dry in the dryer until you have inspected the stain in case you have to repeat this procedure. Do you have a wine stain on a non washable fabric? On non washable fabrics, sponge the effected area with a sponge that has been dipped in a detergent solution (dishsoap or laundry type) and then wrung out and then follow dabbing the stained area with clean water. If red wine is spilled on your carpet don't worry you can save this! Sponge the stained area with carbonated soda water. Blot well (do not rub) as rubbing pushes the stain in further. Then dab the area with a cloth damp with detergent solution followed by a rinsing with clean water. If the stain persists you can use a solution of half glycerin and half water diluting the stain and this solution can be left on the stain for up to an hour then rinsed off with a warm water and blotted well with a clean dry cloth. If a wine stain persists, you can try dabbing the area with some hydrogen peroxide. And wash as described above. If you have cream of tartar handy, a paste of cream of tartar and water spread over the stain will work out the stain when washing again as described above. You can lift wine stains from the carpet using a foaming shaving cream. The shaving cream will lift the wine out of the carpet and you can the scrape it with a spatula and then rinse with cool water for a great clean. More Cleaning Tips tips
